This past year, Chi Delta Phi has made strides in establishing a Philanthropy. We chose Lutheran Child and Family Services for our main philanthropy outlet. LCFS offers a variety of ways in which we can serve the community. Specifically, the community we are serving are children and adolescents who would otherwise be put in juvenile detention. Secondly, the organization is founded by people of Lutheran origins which we thought would be a great connection for us as a sorority founded on Lutheran principles.
Last semester, several of us visited the facility on the east side of Indianapolis to see how our services could be used. Highlights from the visit included talking about a new runaway teens program that we could potentially help with and we also toured the chapel. We all walked away very happy to see an organization where God's presence is so abundant. Chi Delta Phi is looking forward to our future interactions with LCFS.
This past semester is filled with many opportunities for philanthropic involvement. In October, we traveled up to Indianapolis to help LCFS with a service event, their open house fundraiser. Also, throughout that month, we collected items for Halloween goody bags. We also did similar things in December for the holiday season.
Finally, on November 6 we conducted our second annual Cocoa and Canvas Event. The public was invited to come for an evening filled with painting, hot chocolate, and baked goods. What more could you want on a cool, autumn evening? Plus, we were able to donate many of the profits to LCFS! we donated over
Needless to say that last year was a great way to start off our philanthropy, and we are more than excited to see what the future will bring!
